The original bullet journal system was a productivity tool. The Instagram version that took over is an art project. Both are valid; this site is about the productivity tool.
Two pages a month is enough. The monthly log + the daily log + a running future log is the entire core system. Anything more is a hobby on top of the hobby.
Skip the elaborate spreads. They are pretty and they slowly kill the habit. The bullet journal that survives the year is the one with ugly pages and consistent use.
Reread monthly. The weekly review of unfinished tasks (migration, in original terminology) is what makes the system different from a normal notebook. Without it, you have a journal — useful, but different.
